Description

This year's Student Poster Sessions will be held on the evenings of Monday 30th November and Tuesday 1st December, 2009. The aim of the HCSNet Summer School poster sessions is to help students get to know one another and to hear about current research projects in a range of disciplines.

The poster sessions will be combined with "Meet the Presenters" so you will be able to chat to the Summer School presenters in an informal and social atmosphere, and along the way you’ll get to know your peers and receive useful feedback on your own research work. Canapes and drinks will be served from 6pm, a list of the posters for each night is available in the program.

On Monday you can meet David Truam (USC Institute of Creative Technologies), Mark Wiggens (Macquarie University), David B Grayden (University of Melbourne), Olivia Carter (University of Melbourne), Mark Sanderson (University of Sheffield), Yvonne Rogers (Open University UK), Catherine Pelachaud (TELECOM ParisTech) and Mel Goodale (University of Western Ontario).

On Tuesday you can meet Bill Thompson (Macquarie University), Jonathan Harrington (Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich), Usha Goswami (University of Cambridge), Mark Stevenson (University of Sheffield), Jane Davidson (University of Western Australia), Ian H. Witten (University of Waikato, New Zealand), Lyndsey Nickels (Macquarie University), and Massimo Poesio (Universita' di Trento).

Student Poster Sessions Monday 30th November & Tuesday 1 December

The general idea is for the posters to convey who you are, where you are and what you are doing. No need for intricate, time-consuming designs or laminating! In fact we will do all the printing, so no need for you to even produce a hard copy. We’ve created basic templates in MS PowerPoint that should help you to put the 8 x A4 poster slides together quickly and efficiently (see below). It’s fine if you wish to use an alternative to MS PowerPoint, but please keep to the basic design and headings, a maximum of 8 x A4 slides, and a font size that can be read easily from a distance. If you have questions, drop an email to the Summer School coordinator Kate Stevens.

Poster Templates

There are two templates to choose from: one for students who have commenced research and have results to report (see 'With Results' below), and another for students who have not yet collected or analysed data, or who are undergraduate students (see 'No Results' below). Your poster will be a printout of the four slides on one large page.

Simon Zwarts has produced a LaTeX style file you can use to produce PDF slides if that's easier for you than PowerPoint.

Submission Format

If you would like to present a poster at SummerFest '09 you must submit a title and 200 word abstract for your proposed poster using the online submissions process by Thursday 15th October 2009.

Submission deadline: Thursday 15th October 2009
